The John F. Kennedy School prides itself on the active participation of its parents. Appreciating the direct connection between parent involvement and student academic achievement, parents are encouraged to take part in school life by becoming involved with the Parent Council and the Verein as well as directly supporting their children’s teachers with classroom and other kinds of help.

The Parent Council’s primary purpose is to facilitate effective and constructive lines of communication between parents, the faculty and administration. It also provides both a forum for discussion on relevant issues of curriculum and school policies and enables its elected representatives the opportunity to serve on the School Conference Committee, Educational Directorate and attend faculty meetings thereby having direct input in how the school is managed.

And in this time of decreased funding for public education, the Verein takes on the task to involve parents in financially supporting an optimal academic environment for their children when cutbacks are seriously impacting on the quality and quantity of needed resources.

JFKS has a long and strong tradition of parent support and involvement that truly embodies the African saying: “it takes a village to raise a child.”
