College Counseling (click here to go to that page)

The goal of the college placement function of the high school guidance program is to help JFKS students matriculate to the next level of their career preparation. Approximately 90 percent of JFKS students ultimately attend a university. The guidance counselors help these students develop a profile to maximize their acceptability to quality schools. Universities use the following criteria to determine a student's acceptability:

• High school record (courses taken and grades received)
• Rank in class
• Test scores (PSAT, SAT, ACT, TOEFL, and AP exams)
• Essays
• Teacher/counselor recommendations
• Extracurricular activities
• Special talents (e.g., musical ability for admission to music departments)
• Personal interviews

The guidance department is responsible for the schoolwide testing program as outlined.

The Naviance homepage also has important information about UK, US, and German universities and lots more.  Check the 'Latest News' for all the details.

Your username is your email and your password is set by your high school counselor.  If you need access to the system, contact Mr. Lally.

Naviance Succeed allows each student to create a personalized success plan. Because it's on-line, students and families can work together with teachers, counselors, and administrators who become "success coaches", working to ensure that each student stays on track with his or her personal goals.

Naviance Succeed consists of several tools used for planning coursework, researching colleges, and exploring careers. Naviance Succeed provides students with the framework to direct their own education, establish long and short-term goals, and plan for post secondary success.

High School & Middle School Guidance

As the Director of Guidance, Ian Lally has several different responsibilities and oversees all guidance functions. As the High School Counselor, he provides academic, personal/social, and career guidance for student in grades 10 - 13.
Mr. Lally also works as the Director of College Planning. In this role he assists both Abitur and Diploma students negotiate the differing college application processes that exist in the international university systems. Lastly, Mr. Lally is the Advanced Placement (AP) coordinator and is, therefore, responsible for ensuring that all AP classes meet the qualification standards set out by the AP Board as well as conducting all AP testing in May each year.

Ms. Kara Krull is the Middle School Counselor and is responsible for the academic and personal/social counseling in the sixth, seventh, eighth, and ninth (6 - 9) grades. Ms. Krull works with individual students and their families with the goal of ensuring a successful academic career at the Kennedy School. In pursuit of this goal, one of her duties includes the organization and oversight of the seventh grade homeroom program established to support the transition from elementary to high school.
Ms. Krull is also in charge of the JFKS Ambassadors who have volunteered to represent the school to visiting dignitaries as well as potential and new students. Who better to answer questions regarding the day-to-day life of a Kennedy School student than a current Kennedy School student?
