Dear JFKS Families,

We're excited to share that JFKS is hosting "Digital Media Days," a school-wide initiative generously funded by the JFKS Verein as a proactive way to support our students, families, and staff in navigating the digital world safely and responsibly.

As part of this initiative, all students in Grades 3-12, over two weeks between October 5th-16th, will participate in a 90-minute workshop on Digital Media led by Digitaltraining, an organization specializing in digital literacy and online safety education for schools.

In a developmentally appropriate way, students will reflect on their use of digital devices and apps, and explore topics like online safety, cyberbullying, cybergrooming, AI, and practical tips for staying safe online. The goal is to help students better understand the digital tools they use daily, while opening the door for more open communication between children and adults, at school and at home.

Parent Training Sessions:
As part of this initiative, there will also be two parent training sessions, both covering the same content:

• English session: Thursday, October 8th, 6:00–8:00 p.m.

• German session: Thursday, October 15th, 6:00–8:00 p.m.

Parents are welcome to attend either session.

Teacher Training and Early Dismissal:

To ensure all of our teachers are equally equipped with this important training, our staff will be participating in a dedicated Digital Media training session as well. To make this possible, we will have an early dismissal for all grades at 13:25 on Thursday, October 15th.

What a fantastic event! Thank you for supporting our school... the students for running, the teachers for supporting and running (some of them even in costumes!), the parents for helping and cheering, the Verein volunteers for organizing everything including the smallest details. Thank you for the T-Shirts, snacks, music and entertainment. 

We can't wait to find out what the final numbers of laps and donations are... and who the winners of the pizza party is!

It is with great sadness that we share the news of the recent passing of Ann Goedicke, who taught Home Economics, Business Math, Basic and Advanced Accounting, Keyboarding, and Single Living for juniors and seniors at JFKS from 1972 to 1998.

Those of us who were fortunate enough to attend one of her classes will always remember her endless patience, her sense of humor, her kindness—and, of course, baking our very first batch of homemade cookies with her.

Ann’s dedication to the JFKS community extended far beyond the classroom. As both a teacher and a parent, she played an active role in shaping school life. She founded the National Honor Society at JFKS and served as its faculty advisor until 1998. In 1980, she was part of the parent team that organized the very first JFKS Fun Day, an event that has since become one of our community’s cherished biennial traditions.

In addition, Ann managed the School Shop for many years together with student helpers, giving them valuable hands-on experience in running a small business. She also accompanied numerous 11th-grade class trips to the United States, creating lasting memories for generations of students.

The funeral service will be held for close family and friends only. A memorial celebration is planned for a later date.

Our heartfelt condolences go out to her husband, Peter, and to her children, Christina, Natalie, and Philipp.
