The John F. Kennedy School (JFKS) is an academically competitive college preparatory school. Admission is selective and based on previous school records and testing, if applicable.
Admission of children to the JFKS is conditional upon space being available and the applicant having either German or U.S. citizenship (or both) and at least one parent or legal guardian being a German citizen or U.S. citizen (or both). Additionally, the applicant must speak the language corresponding to their citizenship as if it were a first language (in the case of multilingual children, a “dominant language”) in accordance with their age.
This is necessary for the school concept, as all resources, the language program, and the successful learning of the respective first and partner language depend on a balanced number of children in the American and German contingents.
JFKS is a German-American School and as a school of special educational character directly serves the idea of international understanding and combines elements of the German and American school systems. More than 65 years after its founding, JFKS continues to embody the spirit of German-American friendship and the exchange of German and American culture.

Admission Procedures
Application Forms
Updated forms are available during the application periods mentioned above. Use the application form for the grade level you are applying for and ensure all required documents are submitted with your application. Applications are processed in the order they are received, however, the date of submission has no effect on your application.
The application must be signed by both parents and submitted by e-mail to admissions@jfksberlin.org as (preferably one) PDF file. Please note that we cannot accept digital signatures. If you are using the electronic fill-in function of the forms, you must print the document, sign it by hand and then scan it with the other required documents before submitting.
We highly encourage families to submit applications early to allow our admission team to review the application and send notifications of missing or expired documents. After the application period ends, incomplete applications will not be considered for admission and no extensions will be granted to provide missing documents.
Receipt of a complete application will be confirmed by email within 4-6 weeks of receipt.
Applications for Entrance Class and Grades 1-6:
Please save the application form on your device first and then complete the fill-in PDF in a PDF Reader software before printing it. Do not complete it in a web browser, but open the document from the ‘Downloads’ folder on your device instead! If you prefer to complete the document by hand, be sure to check the fields with drop-down menus for options to choose from. Missing or incorrect information will result in incomplete applications that will not be processed!
Admissions Regulations
The Administration does not deviate from the admissions regulations for any reason. Please note that the German language version of the JFKS Admissions Regulations is legally-binding. The English translation is only provided for your convenience.
